Well, I suppose we got to take the bad with the good. As long as it brings good things to Nihei and Nihei fans in the end we ought to be grateful I guess. |

Two Blame! movies were anounced in the Tokyo Anime fair this week. The first one of short length will be released on DVD at the end of May. The second one will be released soon after in the cinemas. Both of them will be done in full CG. Some of the companies involved in the production are Micott & Basara wich worked on Appleseed: The beginning and Production I.G. responsible of the Ghost in the Shell movies and TV series among many other great animes. So very important anime companies are involved in this project and Tstutomu Nihei, who was present in the presentation said to be very excited about it and helped himself in the production. Clink on the link too see a preview picture and read some info in spanish: |

The involvement of I.G. definately boosts confidence, and one can only hope they are up there at the front of this project. I cannot think of a more technically skilled animation studio in Japan. Looks like they're going with a more straightforward 3d rendering method which I personally take as a good sign. Cel shaders are one of those things that is very trendy in CG, but when you start animating with them you start to run into a HELL of a lot of issues. I think the way Nihei draws characters would translate quite well into 3d. |

Erf yeah... CG for Blame ? Not a good idea IMO. Blame is slow, contemplative... Fixed stuff works in anime, but not much in CG (or it requires a lot of work). A lot of things are destroyed too, once again that's something difficult to do (well) in CG. So Nihei will help this time ? Cuz' for the short anime, he was barely involved, if at all. Wait & see ![]() |

It's not what you use, but how you use it ![]() The problem with Appleseed is the same cel shading issue I mentioned, plus poor direction and overall poor story. I work for an animation studio and believe you me it's not what, but how you use it. Most of you would not believe just how much CG there is in the anime you watch right now. As they say; "If you do your job right, no one will know you did anything at all.". |

GiTS:Innocence was also CG and made by I.G., and that movie looked and felt completely different. Not at all like the plastic toy feeling of the humans in Appleseed. So don't despair... just yet. Although if that screenie is indicative, maybe we should. ![]() |
