| Post subject: | Silicon Creatures - Purpose |
I've always wondered, what was the actual purpose of the Silicon Creatures? They kill off people who have the Net Terminal Gene, but the NTG is needed to access the Netsphere and control the builders which are causing an instability in the Earth's mass and cause it to probably implode. What are they actually trying to achieve? I truly want to believe that their goal is not world destruction. Does anyone know? |

Well, one clue can be found when Killy and Cibo interrogates a silicon creature way back when Ivy and Maeve broke through to Seu and Meinserve's domain... this guy right here 
and from what I pieced together, they wanted the netsphere to be in a state of chaos, as the lack of chaos will decimate their race. That's why they go on hunting parties... kill those who has NTG! |

The SC in the first book said that the SCs wouldn't be able to understand the intentions of humans because of their special intelligence (of the SCs). And he said that humans would be nonrelevant to the SCs. But... thats not te truth, isn't it? The existence of the SCs depends on the humans. And their will to survive, their aims, are very human-like. Or not? |

It wasn't so much a suggestion as a statement. Cyberanarchism fits the concept of the Silicon creatures in that they desire a governless system and obviously favor a high degree of individualism and seemingly hedonism. The GA and the SG are trying to reestablish a unified system and limit the corruption of the netsphere and megastructure respectively. This is contra the SC's agenda to spread the 'netchaos'. Sure sounds like a form of to me. IMO it would seem to me that Blame! occurs in a timeframe where the implosion of the earth is no longer a technological concern. After all they talk about bringing matter in from 'outside the megastructure'. The presence of graviton based technology probably says a lot in itself. MAYBE on Earth. Emphasis on maybe. The definition of 'Earth' itself in the Blame! universe is thrown into ambiguity from the very second chapter. Personally I'm inclined to say that between them and Killy their antagonism is merely a conflict of interest. Ironically I find this a less mundane theory to the cliche of 'saving the world'. |

I like this theory. If what you say about the implosion of the Earth no longer being a concern is true, then what is Killy trying to do by finding an NTG carrier? What is now the purpose of stopping the builders? |

I don't think the purpose is so much to 'stop' the builders as to bring development back down to a level of controllability as specified by the GA. Having a system that is evolving at a pace and pattern beyond your capability to monitor is inherently dangerous in itself. Again it breeds anarchy. Killy is finding an NTG carrier ostensibly to gain access to the Netsphere. To what faction's end this remains unclear. Seemingly Killy's role throughout the story is to bring about balance; which is closer to the ideology of the GA. The SG and the SC are polarized towards the extremes. What is for certain is that the NTG carrier in the Blame! universe represents a form of 'trump card' in the overall narrative. I can't find good reason to speculate much further than that I'm afraid. |
