I agree with the theory that Killy is not dead and the last page is in the future, and the person behind Killy is the child. However I have an interesting idea. If the child is a product of Cibo, who was human before her alterations and eventual transformation into the level 9, and Sanakan, who is supposedly a safegaurd/authority double agent (I'm not sure which after seeing her in the other form), then how can the child be a human with net terminal genes? If anything it is only partially human, and I don't see where it could have gotten ntg, as Cibo and Sanakan obviously didn't carry them. I think the child is important for a different reason. All Sanakan says is that it will save the city. It's possible there is a way it could do that without ntg. Perhaps just the union of safegaurd and human physiology is enough.

ok, so i was re watching the ova and than it hit me, Log 6 Cibo, the first chapter of the manga was the last ova ep and the boy said his name - Cibo therebay i think we have pruth that killy lived past the last ch of the manga since if the ova is true and it probably is since it was done with Nihei's consent , we can believe that the the first ch of the manga is the last and there is an all "new" ending

just my opinion but remember that the other ova ep had inspiration in events that took place after the first ch in the manga and nihei was involved in the ova

I'm certain that Killy survives, and it all revolves around the "playford" suite.

It's hard to spot, but when the male-safeguard is crouched down near the head of the female-safeguard, the last frame shows the collar of his suite. On the collar is a large panel with the safeguard symbol and "04", and just under it a smaller panel with what looks like "playford" written on it.

hi all i am just an occasional reader to the forum. for your information playford is a japanese fashion brand and did some collaboration with nihel some years ago. from a news tidbit i read nihel included their brand name and apparel in his comic work out of homage.

Ten to one Killy survived.

1. He has his gun. Nobody else has a weapon like it.
2. Blame! NSE said he succeeded in restoring access. If he's dead, he couldn't have.
3. Nihei never draws anything without a reason. I've never seen something that was completely pointless in his artwork. Showing Killy protecting someone with a gas mask is almost a definite guarantee that he survived later. I doubt Nihei would do a flashback picture at the very end of Blame.

In my mind, the final image is like... oh, how do I say it... It's like the ending to an X-files episode. Just as you think things have come to an end, you get something that jars what you believe. I thought Killy had died until I saw that pic, now I'm sure he survived, at least for a while.

Do you think the guy from NSE is the one Killy protected?

the first thing I thougt at the end of blame! was that now all starts from the beginning. The end hast definitively something to do with the weird start of the series. Could it be some kind of time interference and the whole story starts always from the beginning?
Maybe some kind of loop in a big program? (so matrix-style?)

And the common question since matrix: "Is this all real and not just a simulation?"
Is maybe the netsphere the real world in the future and this all a simulation?

Why is Killy eating only one time in the whole story?

Killy uses a binocular in the first book, but in the 9. book he looks 3000 kilometres with his eyes!? (in the tower, after the small constructors)

Further he reads this book and asks "what is earth" (I have the german localized version). The girl doesn´t react at this question, only ask to get this book. It is like she doesn´t want that he reads books or start to think.
