Well, that example that Kishimoto posted is one of the worst if not the worst redraw Nihei has done for the Biomega tankoubons.
But if you check all the changes Nihei has done in the 4 volumes, you will see most of them are for the better. Putting more details, improving the anatomy, adding missing parts (ex: higaide sword in vol.3) and more detailed sreentone effects and giving more depth and contrast with the use of black shadows.
So I think is very unfair judging his tweaking work only for that panel.
Overall, I think the tankoubon versions are crearly superior.
