Our current policy (as it has been since Nihei started on vol.2 IIRC), is to only "translate" the SFXes in word balloons into rough western onomatopoetic equivalents. This most likely won't change in the future, but from now on I can provide a list of SFX and translations here if you wish (though sound effects are not my strongest suit). Chapter 28: Page 3 gogogogogo [the recreator growing/extending/turning/twisting/just generally being "big"] Page 4 Panel 1 - doh [Zouichi racing/bouncing/skidding on its surface] Panel 2 - gogogogo [recreator again, "gogogo" is often used as a catch-all for things that are big, awe-inspiring, ominous and/or threatening, you often see it in Berserk for example] Panel 4 - giiiiiii [Zouichi speeding up the recreator on his bike] Page 6 dobo [either associated with Zouichi launching off into space or the "interstellar jump"] Page 8 boh [Zouichi reemerging somewhere else] Page 9 kiiiiiii [hurtling at crazy speeds through space] Page 10-11 don [impact/landing, I translated this as "bam"] Page 14 byuh [sound of Zouichi throwing/probe activating] Page 18 gakin [I imagine this sound similar to the ca-clack sound of a shotgun. It's the moving parts of the 4000XL's gun barrel interlocking] Page 20-21 giiiii [Zouichi racing across vast, empty spaces again] Page 23 zuru [interface cable extending/connecting, translated as "swip". Also used as a catch-all for smooth/sinuous movement, think snakes] Page 25 gashon [spikes shooting up from the ground] Page 26 Panel 1 - kabaa [alien life form rising from the ground] Panel 3 - kachi kachi kachi [translated as "clack", the click of an empty gun, though in this case it just seems to indicate low-power shots] Page 27 Panel 1 - dobababa [impact of shots on alien life form] Panel 2 - bun [Zouichi getting thrown off] Panel 3 - zazaaah [Zouichi sliding, stopping] Panel 4 - gasagasa [alien life form moving] Page 28 Panel 1 - zuru [zuru again, this time it's the alien moving in to make a delicious snack out of Zouichi's HDC-08B-3 Fuyu-class bike] Panel 2 - bah [chomp] Let me know if I missed any. EDIT: To clarify, Nomimono translates the main script while I handle editing and additional translation (like SFX). |

Thanks LordMune ! Your notes help a lot understanding some details. For example i would have totally missed the part where Zouichi transcends into the new dimension on p.06... Would you be so kind and go to this thread i created in the past and explain what the sound FX mean ?! Its only one page....some people already gave some help but im still not sure what exactly happens....

I'm no expert on the subject, but "zudoo" sounds like the hull of the warship buckling and giving way to the force of the blast/pressure wave generated/deflected by Higaide's sword slash. I don't think the sword itself has any special properties, long-range attacks generated by sword slashes are pretty common in manga and animé. |
