It made more sense to me after I had read Blame! (at least up until volume 9), so it's your choice really.

Well I finally read Noise. It's kinda like a few thousand years before Blame!. Basically it's a look at the way the world used to be. You really can read it before or after.
Now the thing that confused me was chapter 8: Blame. Then I read that this was an early short story work by Nihei. It features Killy, but it's much more down to earth, closer to our modern world. It's not the same character really... or is it? meh, not really.

I'm sure they are. Just from reading it and the afterword on how it was Nihei's one of Nihei's first work you get that impression. It looks like he just took the character Killy from that first more modern story, and reinvented him in the future of the Noise universe for Blame!. Plus note how he added the !. I love that '!' in the title. Heh.
