he...he..hello. first to say, this is a very nice forum, *thumbup to its builders. so even if one can hardly find good mangas here and it was more like a coincidence that i found it, BLAME! is the best manga ive EVER read. it would be nice to see some more of it, - did nihei write some other work appart NOISE and BLAME! ? - is there any other manga/anime you could call similar to BLAME![or at least something as dark/mysterious] ? i think lain has a similar dark atmosphere, but i dont know about a lain manga. |

Kinda surpised no one metioned Nihei's only American work, 'Snikt!'. It's a Wolverine miniseries he did for Marvel comics. Basically Nihei takes Wolverine and tosses him into a Blame!-lite type of future. Also, a couple of the cool random single illutrations in his artbook are an odd Evangelion illustration and a couple illutrations of Kronen from Hellboy. -Xenos |

Read Baroque. First chapter has been translated by . Read it and though that it does resemble Blame! In a few ways, but also differs. Check it out. |

Baroque sucks. It's nothing like BLAME! The main character seems like a wuss. The art is not that great at all. The storyline flows too much like a video game. |

Well, Baroque is based on a video game. Even says so on the inside dust jacket flap. And I really don't know why it's compared to Blame so much. Maybe it's just the whole "weird characters and evironment" thing combined with the REALLY BIG GUN he picks up next chapter. I'd recommend reading something like Enki Bilal's The Dormant Beast. It's NOT Blame (it actually has dialogue!), but you can clearly see Bilal's influence in a lot of Nihei's art. Bilal is also one of the people interviewed at the end of the artbook as well (still working on getting that translated!) From The Dormant Beast: (sorry 56kers) |

I know it's a video game. I think people should go play the game and not bother with the manga. Those manga clips you gave look sweet. I was wondering who Enki Bilal was... You're right, you can really compare his and Nihei's style. You mention "still working on getting" the artbook translated. Does that imply you are also translating it? -Jenshin |

After reading "The dormant beast" I was very cautious of flies ![]() If you have read any previous work by Enki Bilal, the art is very different to "The dormant beast" e.g. His comic IMMORTEL Ad Vitam. Has anybody read his Nikopol Trilogy, just wondering what that was like. Also, I think there is a book before or after "The dormant beast" the french name is Trente-Deux Décembre. I have scans of "The dormant beast" and "Trente-Deux Décembre" but Trente-Deux Décembre" is in french. This is his homepage: (In french though) Here is the offical site of the IMMORETL Ad Vitam movie which follows his comic (I think, haven't seen it yet). (French again) Once this month ends I might be able to give a link to the scans, just have to wait till my bandwidth ticks over. |

Yup', I've read the 5 comics (the Nickopol Trilogy and 2 last 2 others), but, hem, if my memory's usually not that bad, it really sucks when talking about movies and books. I have to watch/read it 20 times to remember anything. So I couldn't tell you more about it. Just that the drawings look a bit "old" in the first book. It took him 6 years between each book, so you see the difference from one to another. The movie is based on this trilogy, it's good, but not amazing I'd say. Some said it lacks rythme variations. Also everything happens a bit to fast, but it's hard to zip 3 books into one movie ![]() Btw, "the dormant beast" and "32 decembre" are also part of a trilogy, which is not finished yet. |

A year ago, I bought "Der 32. Dezember" (32th decembre), because it reminded me of Nihei's style. That was my first expirience with the art of Enki Bilal. A month ago I finaly was able to get "Der Schlaf des Monsters" (The Dormant Beast) on ebay for a horrid price, because its out of stock in Germany. So after reading the first part of the triology after the second, I finally came to understand most of the story. The whole comic is great, the drawings are fantastic and now after I got the first part, I also love the story. And yes, you might get paranoid about flies, after reading it... Can't wait for the third part! |
