Post subject:  Question regarding Ch.65

regarding Killy's water scene were pretty scattered. I reread the series, looked through this forum, and got things straightened out. One question, however, has been bothering me, and I don't think I've seen it addressed anywhere. (If it has been asked already, then I am indeed legally blind.)

In the first panel of the picture I linked (second to last page in Ch.65), it's obvious that something is coming out from Killy's stomach. I'm fairly confident that it's the NTG carrier "hatching." But then we see the red material inside the sphere collecting into a ball, and the sphere itself doesn't seem broken. So what exactly is happening in this scene? Did Killy have to undergo some kind of male pregnancy, like a seahorse? Did the NTG carrier somehow migrate out of the sphere?

I think I've broken my brain. *headdesk*

I never paid much attention to the details you posted here before, but after i had a closer look at the german edition and the scans (even zoomed them as much as i could), you certainly have a point.

First thought i had when you said "somethings bursting out of his stomach", that its kind of an hommage to the scene in Alien 3 where Ripley falls into the molten metal and the alien queen baby bursts out of her chest ?!
Which would kind of fit, as alot of Blame! is obviously inspired by the Alien movies.
But to be honest i dont think there is something bursting out of his stomach, although it really looks like something is tearing apart (which i think is his suit).

I always thought its another surreal Blame! picture. Killy reaches the end of the megastructure and the orb approaches its destination.
Then the orb which is probably a technological uterus is activated and the genetic information mingles to create what was the purpose of Killy´s whole mission: a human with functioning net genes.
We dont know if the orb has any kind of artificial intelligence or any means of movement, etc. But i dont think its thet improbable.

About the eye, i dont know. He got shot in the head before, maybe his eye is damaged, although, i think the headshot was on the other side. Left, not right.
Could also be an expression of him being in a coma/delirium.

i thought he always had it under his Safeguard suit, same as i would protect my laptop under my sweater if i carried it in the rain or so

To Esper:

It might be a reference to those movies, but Nihei usually takes care that his scenes make logical sense, and if the scene were meant to be surreal, it probably would have been more obvious. (Ch. 64 is definitely a good example of surrealism.)

But to be honest i dont think there is something bursting out of his stomach, although it really looks like something is tearing apart (which i think is his suit).

I guess the main question here is exactly how was Killy carrying the sphere? If he put it inside the suit, that would make the situation a lot less... disturbing, but then, the orb would have been more noticable.

It could be that Killy incorporated the orb into his person to better protect it while traveling to the edge, much like how the Lvl 9 Safeguard carried the orb in its underbelly. But I doubt there are any real nutrition or support from his body given to the orb, just protection.

As for the orb itself, the red stuff could be the genetic data of the two females mentioned in Ch 64 which just combine there and begin to form a zygote, which makes sense because any sooner and the child would be born in a contaminated environment. I'm sure the technology of the time can accelerate development, but slowing and/or stopping it is not as easy.

And about his eye, it is on the same side as when we was head shotted by that Silicon Creature. It might be that protecting the orb drained the capacity of his nanites, which would explain why he didn't just get and go after shooting the Silicon creature and just lay there as the water rose up. If you look closely at the second frame of that page Ipsius posted, you can see a slight scar right above the eye, which corresponds almost exactly to where he was shot just before. Either way Killy's ability to heal is somehow inhibited, which doesn't make for a very good time to "birth" an embryo

I could be entirely wrong here; only Nihei really knows the answer, but... the last couple chapters show Killy slowing down. He appears with damage and stuff that we never see happen to him. We have no indication of time or anything of the sort...

Anyways, Killy, moving slow, doesn't seem to be able to take damage as well as he used to, you know? I mean, we see him at one point without his leg--normally, he would have grown that back. My guess is that he's winding down and about to die.

Then again, the final page shows him doing what he does best, protecting a guy in a gas mask (the netgene kid?), so I dunno.
