Vaxillus: It's easier than you think it might be. Just use texture layers and superimpose them over your painting. You will find lots of freely usable textures on the net everywhere. Just google for them
But of course I also work with texturized brushes a lot. Photoshop allows you to add texture to a brush, just look in the brush settings for the option!
