After reading Blame and Noise I'm in thirsty for more, so is there anything you'd recommend? I'm looking for something dark, futuristic settings maybe (like Ghost in the Shell (:Stand Alone Complex) or Avalon), something that'll make you think or leave you wondering. Doesn't have to be an anime or manga, books or regular movies are fine too. Any suggestions? |

Dark, apocalyptic, cyborgs and future world - if you havent read Battle Angel Alita ( or Gunnm (same thing just different title)). That is really a good one... And my suggestion is allso Akira. |

I recommend Texhnolyze, which is an anime by the same people who created Lain. It's currently being fansubbed by Wizzu, the same guys who subbed the BLAME! anime, and they're up to chapter 19 right now. I also recommend the book "Feersum Endjinn" by Iain M. Banks, one of the official sources of inspiration for BLAME (it says so in the artbook). |

A classic book : William Gibson's 'Neuromancer'. As for the movies, I loved Blade Runner, but you probably already know that title. |

Thanks for your recommendations. I saw Akira, NGE, Blade Runner and Lain already, I currently downloading Texhnolyze and looking for Neuromancer and Feersum Endjinn, especially interested in the latter. I don't really like the main character design in Battle Angel Alita, so I'm not sure if I'll read it. Cube and Hypercube get average reviews, but it only takes 2 hours to watch one so I'll probably watch them too. Thanks again. |

I may give away my age by suggesting titles...probably not so far from ergates who mentioned Blade Runner. Far from manga but close to Blame in some aspects is Moebius comic "Hermetic Garage", a surreal adventure in a strange world with different levels and weird characters. Of course the drawings are amazing. Not the dark lovely atmosphere of Blame but a much more new-age mistic aesthetics. Anyway worth giving it a try. No idea if you can find it on Internet though. I hated Gantz...I don´t like the drawings, they are too cold. The computer 3d generation gives them a lot of accuracy but I don´t see how that helps create an atmosphere. I mean, compare that to beautiful Nihei´s rough hand drawing. I loved Ghost in the Shell II but of course that´s nothing new for anybody here. Anyway I wanted to mention it because I think much of Blame wouldn´t make much sense without the language Shirow invented. I mean specially when virtual data is described in the form of thick lines coming out of Cibo´s head etc. (Better than the manga, the first movie I think) I don´t like Alita for the same reason someone mentioned before in the thread. |
