Having never been there, this is just a guess, but isn't the commonly held idea that "everything" is more expensive in Japan to be a little exaggerated? I've heard that outside of Tokyo, perishable food costs pretty much the same as in North America, and that the same goes for most other things (consumer goods, etc.). Real estate, I take it, is relatively expensive throughout. |

Tokyo actually IS the most expensive city on earth, according to a research I read not too long ago. Osaka is also on this list. NINJA EDIT- I found the article |
