I kinda thought the entire thing was a big loop....it sort of flows that way with the in's and out's of space time and things collapsing this way and that with gravity furnaces etc.
The child in the beginning is the child from the end...BOOM...destroyed...crap. He loses that goal...he had been shot in the head at the end, correct? Then falls into the water and falls...and falls. Loses his SG functions...goes back to thinking he is human....has this child with him he has a need to protect...but really doesnt have the ability he should due to loss of SG functions from head wound. So she dies...he goes on with other mission functions..get terminal net genes...and it all loops.

Problems with this idea:
The kid in the beginning is male, the kid at the end is female.
There are lots of plot holes, then. People who have died would come back, many of the places he visited the first time around have been destroyed. Toha Heavy Industries isn't even there anymore.
So while I like the idea, it doesn't really work out. Depsite the somewhat enigmatic plot and shallow characters, it really is a linear story.

Ah, well then there goes that idea. Hmm. I guess it is just linear then. Still great.

to continue the discussion, im a little confused as to why killy has to go all the way back to the heart of the dungeon with the NTG carrier?
along the way iko and chibo were accessing terminals so why wouldnt the NTG carrier just access some random terminal and get it over with? it seems like a waste of time and a little risky to just go right back to the very beginning doest it?

I don't think he went back to the very beginning. I bet the Netsphere doesn't even exist outside the city, so they'd have to go back in somewhat. They'd probably need to find some really strong connection that's out of the way of harm.. Something like that maybe.

just a little question:
maybe i have forgotten something, but i can't remember the NTG child at killy's side at the end is a girl.
i mean...it is a child with a mask on. or have i forgotten something?
the picture of the water....this would fit to the theory of the loop, but then all the dead people and destroied parts of the megastructure would come back.....
a) the whole "cyberdungeon quest" is like a matrix (killy's training )
i don't believe the theory with the loop.

about killy having to eat things..
after he regenerates from the destruction of davine's netsphere access point, he moves to one of the huge banks of lights providing artificial 'sunlight' and drains all the energy (and putting the lights out) from the banks using a cable connected to his body
would this mean that killy gets more 'mechanical' with age?

Probably suggested before, but I'd say that Killy gradually uses more of his skills and cybernetic potential as he slowly remembers just how to do it. As we know, Killy is thousands of years old, and suffers from memory problems.
EDIT: Oh, and hi all!

I think you're right Jinnai. All this starts when Killy gets pieced by Snakan's needles. When he wakes up he can determine the race of an individual just by looking at them, as well as whether or not they have net terminal genes.
