As already stated in the old BBS, Nihei for sure takes from many sources. For example Great Sky River of Gregory Benford and Feersum Endjin of Iain Banks have a lot of similarities, no question that Nihei was influenced by them.
But I liked Blame the most, because even if there are common points in the end it is something different. The environment is both familiar and alien, and you can really feel the loneliness of the main characters.
By the way, some of the people there was really intriguing. That's another point disappointing me in the end : they deserved something more. For example, the origins of Domochevsky and Iko, or the history of the Toha Heavy Industries, what happened to Musubi from Noise, not to mention the past of Killy and Cibo.
Well, let's wait a few years ....
