today i saw a documentary about an idea of a pyramid shaped megastructure containing habitats for 700.000 people, planned for the tokyo bay area. the similarities with the megastructure of blame are amazing. see for yourself:
This is a building robot to build those huge columns:
note how skyscrapers hang inside the megastructure like beehives:
In those spheres you can change from lifts to small trains or escalators that run inside the horizontal tubes:

yeah, i saw this too.
I also saw another documentary about a building they want to build in tokyo that is more like a skyscraper that flares out at the bottom. instead of hundreds of floors there are tens of bowl shaped structures with parks in the center and living quarters in the slopes of the bowl. it would be the tallest building in the world
looks like nihei and gibson weren't too far off.

It would be great to just wander around in a structure like that ;_____;

Really great, this is the Megacity Pyramid, Try 2004 project.
And do you know the X-Seed 4000 project ? ^^ A giant tower looking like the Fuji-yama and built into Tokyo bay.
Structures like this could be really great... but this one would take 30 years to be built !

I've also seen that documentary, the one that heeen was talking about. It's really fun that almost everyone here is interested in engineering and megastructures.

This is even closer to Babylon Project in Mamoru Oshii's Patlabor.
I guess beeing a sci-fi artist is foreseeing things in a way.

I saw that (edit: the original topic, not the above post) a while ago (before this topic was posted). It certain would be awesome, but where would one find all the funds for such a project? The materials olone would cost a tremendous amount. I suppose it would probably be able to support itself through all the tourist money it would bring in though.
