IMHO Blame! more suited for Fuzion™ ^___^

anyway... if there'd be such MMOG (Massive multiplayer on-line game) i'd played it for sure...

Probably no one here has played Nethack, but I think a similar game style would work very well for Blame. Basically Nethack is a turn-based dungeon RPG where every dungeon level is randomly generated. This Blame-based game would likewise have a huge megastructure with each section randomly generated, with a few areas guaranteed to appear in each game. The display would be tile-based, like old computer RPGs, but with better graphics. This graphic simplicity would allow for a wide array of player abilities.

Players would have four choices of starting race: Human, Silicon Creature, Safeguard and Relic. Relics are ancient synthetic organisms like Killy.

The advantage of humans would be that their social networks. A human adventurer who finds a human settlement will be able to eat and sleep there and trade valuable equipment he's uncovered with the residents. Human adventurers would start play with some equipment like a fisherman suit or hacking rig, with the potential to get more powerful stuff later.

The advantage of Silicon Creatures is their impressive physical power. The SCs in Blame seem to follow a hierarchy with the strongest warriors leading the others and the society as a whole being led by "elders," so SC characters would begin play as low-level warriors or hackers. SCs are mostly nomadic without a social network though, so they don't have many friends to help them if they get hurt or lost. They also may have to fight with other SCs to get respect within the warrior hierarchy.

The advantage of Safeguards is their physical power and the fact that they have tons of allies and the entire Netsphere backing them up. SG players would begin as Level 2 Safeguards--not mindless robots like Exterminators but still low in the SG hierarchy. SGs have to follow orders from their superiors or get deactivated. A Safeguard with enough experience can start to act of its own accord and even hack and bypass the Safeguard system to become independent. Safeguards would be a very hard race to play, because unless you can break free of the system you will eventually be ordered to your death in battles with Silicon Creatures and mutant lifeforms that plague the Megastructure.

The advantage of Relics is that they have rare powers and equipment that no one else does. Many of them have astounding physical and Netsphere abilities--see Killy. However, they are lone wanderers with no allies to support them. SGs and SCs will kill them on sight and humans will fear and distrust them unless

It would be possible to change your character from one race to another. A human can be transformed into an SC or SG. A SC can be converted into a Safeguard (like Sanakan did during her raid) or have their consciousness downloaded into a human body. A SG can also download into an SC or human body. And any human, SG or SC that acquires enough powers and body modifications can become like a Relic.

As well as being able to physically fight other characters, I think Netsphere hacking should be a part of the game. If your character develops enough computer skill, she can take over entire regions of the Megastructure and turn the Safeguards into her servants like Davine did.

If this were an online multiplayer game, the action would never truly end. Some characters would get really powerful and dominate until someone else knocked them off and took their place. If this were a single-player game, there could be a few different endings. Your character could take control of the Megastructure, destroy the Megastructure, escape the Megastructure into space or regain access to the Net via NTGs and restore order like Killy did.

The question that needs to be answered first is what nature of multiplayer game this is. Quite a few people go 'MMO of course!' but the fact of the matter is MMO infrastructure costs money, and where money goes copyright law follows. Because copyright is involved this also negates donations.

Realistically, you need to be looking for a game you can make on personal expense alone and runs on a server/client expense basis only.

And this is before even approaching the logistic requirements of development.

Hmmm... interesting! If I were to make a BLAME! RPG...

Races (can be chosen by the player):
-Humans: weak STR but can make things from scraps (say, found a pole, then a knife, then use an item-making skill... voila! a spear). they also have good intelligence and social skills. Tribal hierarchy, no one is a certain leader, but can change according to situation (or maybe corporate or militaristic factions can create their own hierarchy)
-Silicone Creatures: best STR but a little low on intelligence. Only a certain class can make items (as opposed to humans, every one can make things) and that certain class has a low STR. Warrior hierarchy.
-Safe Guard: Very strict in hierarchy (they can only get quests when the Game Master tells them so, as opposed to the 'free' quests the SC or humans get), starts at SG LV 2 but has a very good skill (after certain quests: the ability to summon SG LV 1s). An additional quest (of course ordered by the Game Master) could make them free SG (quests anytime) but they will be hunted by the rest of the SG. Not to mention hunted by SC (to be analysed in the lab) and humans (for their own safety). Only higher-rank SG can get quests anytime, and they can design quests. These quests must be sent to the Game Master for approval (so GM can issue orders to their underlings).

Players can change races when they die (albeit a random one: must win a kind of minigame in the spare electron world).

Weapons can be made from the environment (see that iron bar? Use it.)
Players would have to survive as long as possible to reach some certain quests (command the tribe / army against a horde of SG (humans) or go on a campaign to settle suitable areas (SC).)
