Seems like things are getting interesting again. Every individual interprates a picture differently, but this is really showing some insight. Great! Thx man
From an interview I thought that Nihei was simply intrigued by the idea of a world that reflects the opposite of our current way of living. With more and more people living on smaller spaces (especially in countrys like Japan) he wanted to sketch a universe which loads us with a massiveness of empty space surrounded by strange structures. In turn the population would be relatively marginal. Kinda like turning things upside-down and then also inside-out.

So the MS shows us ‘signs’ to represent a current and rather unchanging flow in our world. This is so far interesting as seeing it from a very professional angle. But up to now you haven’t spoken of the structural changes that occur inside the MS. I don’t like to believe that those styles were just randomly scattered on top of another after Niheis moods, the athmosphere of the place and general manga law.
Is this an a general master-hypothesis or can it be also transfered into the storyline itself? For example, how does the change in architecure correlate with the MS-‘society’? Troughout the different leves, we can see mankind scarcely, but always degenerating from an almost functioning form of anarchy (I guess) over slavery to scattered mini-societies who fight for their survival. Ending it all where existence is only possible by means of fast and uncontrolled reproduction. On the other hand, the other races become more and more eminent up to a city of architects, that seems to exist only to mock humanity [this is where i’d like to be fed about arched walls, please].
Analogous to this, I feel the surroundings are ever becoming more sterile and homogenous but amazingly also losing order of any kind up to the most basic purpose. Is there more behind it than a simple representaition of evolution? After all we’re not only watching an alternative after our history here, but literally experiencing new history through the story (how much time again has passed since Killy set out on his little journey?).
Also is there something you could read out of the backup-memory structure from the end or is this simply again a crass reversion of the MS (like: the Netsphere as a safe and calm haven)?

Of course all of the above coincide with the means of merely creating a fantastic and smoothly flowing story. I somehow entertain the thoght, that Nihei has this board translated to him in some way and goes like: ‘Fine, whatever. Keep up that rubbish and I’ll go back drawing lots of violence and destruction, which I’ll try to connect into a story then....’

One thing that bothers me a bit is that you practically force the feeling of fear and insecurity on the building of large structures. Recent examples show us that architecture is also a way of showing ‘yes, we can!’ by uprising economies (e.g. the city of Dhubai or the Olympics in China). Thus making a statement of a fast growing and prospering society, where limits are not easily met. On the other side, the ‘old democracies’ are more stagnant, aiming for stability and the preservation of built in structures. Also, banks are usually present in huge monsters of glass and ornamental pillars to represent durance, stability and safety (which is a load of bollocks as we all should know by now). Taking that on a stupid level I could even get as far as stating: ‘Aight, those guys are building larger and larger towers. Looks like winner is he, who can plant the biggest penis into landscape. So this guy creates this ridiculously large structure in a story full of explosions and gore. Am I the only one who thinks they’re compensating for something?!’ And worse, I could even get away with it. ,)
What's your opinion on that?

he read a totally different story, and you don't have to be an architect to understand it. medium-high knowledge is required.
