Loew Grigorievic Grebnev is the founder of Microvolt.
Originally this company did research in the fields of medicine and immortality, offered life prolonging through braintransplant.

After Loew was able to extent his lifespan to over 300 years, he found a way to create an immortal and eternal youthful body for him, using his own and Vief Chiena´s cells, who is a relative of Reload.

We know that Reload left for mars and after that the mars disaster happened.
We also know that after the two astronauts set, after 700 years, again a foot on mars, they meet Reload in the abandoned colony.
Only one returned, and he was infected with N5S.

The DRF wanted to obtain this virus, because Nyaldee knew what the pollen of Reload could do to the reverse phase imaging polymer protoplasm, and it was her wish to transsform humanity into something of a higher order. An order that would be superior to immortality.

So we had a disaster when Reload arrived on mars and another after an astronaut meet her 700 years later.
If there is a connection is unknown. The virus came from a fossil on mars...
But somehow Reloads pollen and the R.P.I.P. are interconnected.
Maybe it wasnt Reloads fault that everybody was infected, but maybe that everybody on mars vanished....

Narain said Loew disappeared. I dont think he disappeared, its just that nobody recognized him anymore, after he became immortal, looking all young and different.

So 700 years after the downfall of civilisation on earth a spaceship visits mars again and one of the astronauts is the immortal and incognito Loew.
Why did he go for mars ?
Because he obviously wanted to meet Reload as we see in chapter 42.

But why did Reload leave for mars ?
I can only guess, but i´m sure you all know the movie Highlander.
Being the only immortal is an extremely severe problem when it comes to love. All your mortal lovers die before your eyes, while you stay young.

Also after living for an eternity, what can you do, that you havent done before ?

Visiting another planet is surely a new experience, even for an immortal.

We see in chapter 42, Reload leaving for mars, and two pages further, Nyaldee pitying Loew.
To me thats proof that Loew was in love with Reload and thats why he becomes an immortal as well and leaves for mars to join her.

I have presented this theory already in another thread and people said they dont believe Reload and Loew would slaughter the other astronaut.
Maybe Loew didnt know that the astronaut would be infected, it was the DRF´s secret plan.
The virus would infect the astronaut after he re-enters the spaceship, when Loew is already gone with Reload.
Or maybe they just dont care, Reload being alone on mars for 700 years. Maybe not even having a memory what happened 700 years ago.
Or the astronaut didnt even catch the virus from Reload, its just in the atmosphere and immortals are immune.

It could also be that Loew was sure it wouldnt matter, because as long as the mooring cable was sealed, there would be no way to use the virus.
I know this is shaky, but thats why he sealed it.

A theory I had a bit ago was that the space ship, that Loew went to Mars on, disintegrated on its way back to earth because it may have been designed to do so by DRF (if it was a DRF ship).

It could have only been built to survive one atmospheric venture and would dismantle on the way back, dispersing the spores onboard.

Yeah, I also got the impression that Loew was in love with Reload. For such an important background character, Loew's history is really confusing.

When we see Kozlov's body, Leow's old body, and Loew's immortal body getting their brains swapped, how many brains are really involved? It sounded like Loew's original brain went into the new body, and the brain created from Loew's and Vief's (Yion's) genetic material went into Kozlov. What brain went into Loew's old body, and what happened to the bear's brain? I'm not saying Loew stuck the bear brain in his old body, but there had to be a brain in the body that Nyaldee met...

Of course, I'm assuming that Nyaldee met Loew after he made the brain-swap. When we get a glimpse of Nyaldee meeting with Loew's old body, she apparently uses her tentacle-probe thing on him. It's hard to tell exactly when or why this meeting occurred, but I wonder if she met with Loew to kill him. His old body died, but his new (immortal) body had already gone into hiding? Maybe Nyaldee was just scanning his memories or something, but I think she would take the opportunity to eliminate Loew if she could.

I mean, I'm still confused about what order things happened in. Reload left for Mars on the original colonization mission, and was the only survivor of the N5S disaster. Not too long afterward, Nyaldee met Loew's old body, maybe to kill him. Then there was the big data loss event. I assume that Loew's new, immortal body laid low for a few hundred years, and eventually signed on as part of the new Mars mission. I think that's the right order...

Hmm. I hadn't considered that Reload might have left because Loew got old. That actually makes it seem more likely that Leow did the brain switch after the scene with Nyaldee.

I think it makes more sense for Loew to transplant his original brain directly into the immortal body. That way no memory transfer is necessary, and there'd be no need to wipe memories from the brain that would be Kozlov's. I mean, Kozlov calls Loew "my old man" at one point, so I assume he remembered being raised by Loew.

Well, Yion addresses the knight as "Kozlov," doesn't she? I interpreted the knight as being Kozlov's heroic mental image of himself in the hallucinatory mindlink-thing. I thought that was why the DRF agent from chapter 3 pops up--Kozlov is imagining himself successfully saving Yion from the guy who beat him up. I'm not sure how Yion is involved as a part of Kozlov's mental image...

What I mean is that I wonder whether the Yion we see with the knight is based on her mental image of herself, or Kozlov's? It may be that Yion isn't at all linked into the hallucination, as Esper said, but I get the feeling that she has to be involved as part of the "recreation" process.
